Accessibility
We want every resident to be able to use this website. Here's our commitment, what we've done, and how to reach us if something isn't working for you.
Our commitment
The Maryland Heights Fire Protection District is committed to making this website accessible to all members of our community, including people with disabilities. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, the standard referenced by Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act for state and local government web content.
Accessibility is ongoing work. We review the site as content is added and updated, and we treat reports of barriers as a priority.
How this site supports accessibility
- Pages are built with semantic headings, landmarks, and labels so screen readers can navigate them.
- Text is sized in relative units, so it respects your browser's zoom and font-size settings and reflows without loss of content.
- Color choices are checked for sufficient contrast, and links and buttons are identified by more than color alone.
- Every page can be operated with a keyboard, with a visible focus indicator.
- Images that convey information have text alternatives; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
- Forms have visible labels, clear error messages, and no time limits.
- Motion is limited to small, decorative transitions, and the site honors your device's “reduce motion” setting.
Documents & alternate formats
Some documents on this site, such as permit forms and third-party PDFs, may not yet be fully accessible. If you have trouble with any document, contact us and we will provide the information in a format that works for you — such as large print, plain text, or over the phone.
